I am a British Academy Newton International Fellow working on the emergence of rhetoric as an academic subject in Syriac schools. I am interested in the transmission of the Aristotelian logic in Syriac and Arabic, with a particular focus on the translations of Aristotle’s Rhetoric and their place within the Organon. I have taught courses on ancient rhetoric and Semitic philology. Here in Durham, I teach an MA course on Edessa and its history.
The Aristoteles Pezographos project is an excellent occasion for me to deepen my understanding of Aristotle’s texts in Greek to better understand their translation and adaptations in the Middle East.
